organic sticker Bensenville, Ill. March 26th, 2015 – creative werks, llc, which designs, manufactures and co-packs for top food brands, is now able to pack organic products for the $35 billion organic food industry, which grew by 12% in 2014 according to the Organic Trade Organization (OTA).

The audit, completed this March, requires creative werks to segregate organic products from non-organic products, including all packaging components detailed in the finished good case. This measure controls against cross-contamination and ensures all organic products are kept in a designated area, free of non-organic products.

“Similar to our diligent management of allergens, organic products require a set of systems and controls to ensure the integrity of the products is not contaminated by other non-organic foods,” explains Veronica Viña, Senior Manager of Quality and Compliance. “Machines that run organic products require a specific sanitation process and organic items will be warehoused separately from other products in the facility.”

The organic industry has seen significant growth in recent years and more retailers are diversifying its shelves with organic products to support the growing consumer demand.    In 2013, the OTA reported that organic offerings rose by 11.5% and account for 4% of total US food offerings. The USDA projects the organic category will grow to $40 billion, with consumers finding organic products at mainstream outlets like Walmart, Target, and the neighborhood grocer.
